Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

How does it work?

Your website traffic can come from many areas, for many reasons.

One is what we call the “check you out” factor. This is when a potential client has your business card, or a piece of marketing material, or they’ve followed a link from another site where you might have a guest blog post or they’ve had someone else suggest that your site is one that is worth taking a look at.

The other key source is via online searches – your potential clients are searching for a particular solution or product or service and your site pops up on the search results as a suggested site to visit. That’s search engine optimisation at work.

The Techie SEO Stuff

In tech speak, Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO for short is:

“The method of analysing and constructing individual web pages, as well as entire sites, so that they can be discovered, analysed, and then indexed by various search engines”.

SEO is a rather complex field and should be considered an ongoing journey rather than a single event. No one knows precisely what components Google uses to determine its results (and as they are constantly updated – Penguin and Panda were the latest), but there are several influencers:

  • Keyword density on each page
  • The first 50 words on each page are of particular importance
  • Individual meta tags (title tag, page description and keyword list per page not just for the website as a whole
  • Incoming links from other sites (online directories, article marketing)
  • Keywords in main and sub headings (H1 and H2 headings)
  • Regular updates of content (preferably keyword rich) via a blog or a news page
  • Social media content (more incoming links)

If you build it, will they come?

So it’s not a simple case of launching your site and then sitting back and waiting for enquiries to come pouring in!

But the good news is that there are many steps you can take to positively influence your visibility in the search results as we build your website. Once your site is live, a commitment to regular updates and maintenance of your website content and copy can keep your site buoyant in the search results.

Whether you are in the early planning stages of launching your business website or have an existing site that you would like to improve the performance of, we can help you.

How we approach SEO set up

Our team will conduct keyword analysis research for your market, identify niche keyword markets to target and compile a Search Engine Optimisation report. We have some pretty cool software that can evaluate your site and let us know how it is performing against specific keywords and your competitors for those search terms.

We can write search engine friendly copy that builds your keywords into the headings and text, whilst still being engaging for your website visitor. We then also write an individual page title and page description for each page.

Have you ever searched online, clicked on a result and found yourself, not on the homepage, but on a page inside the website? That’s because that particular page has been optimised for a specific search phrase and Google has judged it as the best match for your search – this approach opens every page of your website to your potential clients. Landing on a page that matches exactly what they are looking for first will be far more engaging than just hitting your home page!

We can also assist with ongoing activity to build and maintain your online visibility such as article submissions and blog posts.

Perhaps most importantly, we will demystify the process. We guarantee that after a fifteen minute jargon free phone call with us where we explain how SEO works in simple terms and with tangible examples, you’ll find the whole process a lot less daunting!

If you’d like to maximise the performance of your website just give us a call today on 1300 998 558.

You might also like to take  a look at our information on Pay Per Click/ Google Adwords Campaigns, as it’s a very powerful and cost effective traffic generator that works hand in hand with SEO. Another key consideration is your copy – it needs to be engaging to pull a client into your site – you don’t want them to arrive only to leave very quickly because the content doesn’t resonate with them! That’s all part of the big picture of Client Engagement Marketing so, of course, we have a member of our team, Janet Hillis, who can make words sing with her copywriting prowess.

“…Tangible results…”

I first contacted Ideas Into Action for help with putting together a marketing plan for my small, new copywriting and graphic design agency. In the process Angela gave me great pointers about finding a niche market. She facilitated a strategic alliance which is helping to get our name out to 5,000 nonprofit organisations – the target market I decided to focus on. She also suggested lots of practical, straightforward ways to enhance our website and helped with SEO to make us easier to find on the web. It’s still early days, but the fact we’ve already had a booking from one of the top charities through Google is a testament to the results Angela can help businesses to attain. I’m thrilled and excited to see what happens next. Thank you, Angela.
